The Thistle Challenge is a fun, healthy and effective way to raise money. But don't just take our word for it........

" We travel up from London to take part-Volunteering Highland give us the opportunity through their well organised charity events to have a great weekend away and raise some money for good causes. Sarah Barker does a great job!"

" The Thistle Challenge was a real highlight in the youth kafe's year. A total of 10 people from The Drop-In, Dingwall Youth Kafe took part and we all really enjoyed ourselves and felt like we'd really achieved something! It gave us a chance to break away from our usual routine in a natural environment; we walked, talked and generally unwinded.

The event was well organised and Loch Affric was stunning, despite the grey drizzly day! We managed to raise just over £1200 between us for the youth kafe in sponsorship and the money was used to support our general running costs to ensure the youth kafe's survival. On the whole a very enjoyable and worthwhile event and we look forward to hearing what's in store for the 2008 challenge!!"

Many Thanks

-J.Fieldsend The Drop-In, Dingwall Youth Kafe.

"When our volunteer centre manager first told us of the Thistle challnge we thought it was a great idea. Jackie, Liz and I work for Caithness Mental Health Support group, Stepping Stones in Thurso. As with most charities these days we are always in need of funds.

When the entry forms and information pack arived we were a bit worried that we had taken on too much as none of us were particularly fit. We set about collecting sponsors, and as the money began to mount up we were encouraged to get into training.

We left Thurso at 6am on the morning of the challenge as it was a three hour drive to get to Glen affric. The scenery alone was worth the drive, the blisters and almost poisoning ourselves with midge repellent!

It was a good day, not always easy, but then that's why they call it a challenge I suppose! As we crossed the finishing line, there was a nice surprise waiting for us. We had won a lovely silver quaich for collecting the most money, over £1,500, a great boost for our funds and a great sense of achievement for us.

Congratulations on a well organised event and a most enjoyable day. Roll on 2008!
